According to Feeding America, each person needs access to 160 lbs. of food per month to be considered food secure. To date, more than 15,000 lbs. of healthy food has been distributed through Woodbine Elementary’s Healthy Food Pantry, which operates once per month. Commodities distributed include proteins, produce, dairy, and whole grains.
On average, 270 people are impacted by the food pantry. All food distributed equates to 13,000 meals.
This school year, the program has introduced the inclusion of SNAP-Ed. Every month, Nutrition Educators from the Community FoodBank of NJ provide cooking demos, recipe cards, and other information to promote the consumption of healthy, whole meals.
