NJHCN community grants were awarded to projects that are designed to have a lasting impact in building a culture of health in communities, schools, places of worship, early care and education centers, neighborhoods and municipalities. Each grant addresses at least one strategy to increase opportunities for physical activity and one strategy to improve access to healthy eating. Since 2011, NJHCN Community Grants Program has expanded our funding from 10 pilot sites to 66 nonprofit organizations in 17 counties and has awarded more than $3.2 million in community grants. These investments have helped to strengthen wellness policies, support farmers markets and healthy corner stores, expand open streets, install bike racks, enable walk/bike/food audits and community gardens.
