Brighter Days to come in 2021

Happy 2021 to all of you! These past months our staff has faced the daily challenge of increased need for food and other resources in our community. The temporary closing of our family campus mobilized our staff to begin delivering food bags and hot meals to families in need – families living in HomeFront housing as well as in local motels. While meeting these immediate needs is at the top of our priority list, we are also planning for the time when we can return to offering our residents a program that puts health and wellness at the top of their priority list. Our staff has used this temporary pause at the family campus to ensure that the opportunities offered to our residents upon reopening provide avenues towards health and stability. Our teaching kitchen has provided so many parents with the tools needed to create healthy affordable meals for their families. Upon reopening we plan to offer family cooking classes on the evenings and weekends so that children can learn alongside their parents. Preparing meals together as a family can play a significant role in strengthening a family both physically and emotionally, not to mention the benefits of learning to cook as a child! We are also going to enlist our residents to take on teaching classes themselves – charging them with providing healthy modifications of traditional favorites. As we wait to open the doors of our campus again, we continue to offer online cooking, yoga fitness and more with a goal of keeping us all connected and focused on brighter days to come. We feel very fortunate to have a growing support network of healthcare providers offering us guidance as we continue to build a program that has health and wellness at its foundation.
