Grantee Blog 2020

Celebration and Gratitude

As we embrace the fall season, we are reflecting on the journey of creating a Therapeutic Sensory Garden at Merriam Avenue School.

When we were awarded this grant in January 2020 we could not have imagined how different the world would be in October 2021.  The pandemic may have impacted the speed in which the garden was constructed but the need for this space is so much greater because of the pandemic.
To celebrate the completion of the garden we invited our community partners Performance Pediatrics, SNAP -Ed, and our NJHCN coach Janet Heroux to view the garden and enjoy some fall treats. A journalist from a local media organization also attended, so we can share this success with our community.
We are so grateful for all the support and guidance that we have received from our community partners and would like to say a special thank you to Janet Heroux, who has been extremely helpful and encouraging throughout this process.
We would also like to acknowledge the Department of Health who funded the garden, because of their generosity we have a beautiful space that we will be enjoyed by the students and staff at Merriam Avenue School for many years to come.
