Curriculum Writing and Hydroponic system building
The Transportable Hydroponic System has arrived! While the system is being put together, Lorraine Gibbons our Farmer and expert in hydroponic systems, is gathering her farming and greenhouse curricula. Kerri Likakis MS RD, the curriculum writer for KidsFit is currently merging the growing lessons with the KidsFit lessons. The lessons will include farming and food justice education. The hybrid program will be taught for classes in grades 6-8. This program is aimed at reaching three schools in Newark in the 2018-2019 school year. Lorraine will co teach the KidsFit “Watching Healthy Food Grow” program along with Registered Dietitians. An outcomes assessment is being developed to assess the behavior change and knowledge increase from hydroponic lessons and experience growing healthy food. A Hydroponic workshop is being scheduled for teachers and administrators at the three Newark schools in September. Our Students will be “Watching Healthy Food Grow” at the beginning of the school year!
