Do you want to build a snowman?

West Milford’s new StoryWalk is ready to be assembled! The placards and informational kiosk have been delivered and all that remains is for the weather to favor us with suitable conditions for installation. The West Milford Public Library has collaborated with the West Milford Health Department in selecting an inaugural book that will encourage children and parents alike to slide, step, and stomp through the snow as they explore the woods surrounding the new trail. West Milford receives an average 35 inches of snow per year, compared to 22 inches for New Jersey as a whole. Encouraging physical activity throughout the winter months, whether it be collecting pinecones for a birdfeeder or building a snowman with a friend, helps ensure that children maintain a year-round program of healthy living.

The program is supported by funding from Atlantic Health System as part of the New Jersey Healthy Communities Network.

About the Grantee

West Milford Health Department

We are a small local health department located in one of the largest (in land size) municipalities in New Jersey, the rural Northern Passaic County town of West Milford. Environmental health is a high priority for West Milford residents as the Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act charges West Milford residents with protecting the water that supplies much of Northern NJ.
