Essex County Department of Health

At the Essex County Department of Health, we have been achieving major accomplishments with our vaccination program. Starting in late December we have been able to expand to five vaccine sites across Essex County as well as mobile sites and assisting townships with homebound individuals.

We have two sites in Newark at the Donald Payne School of Technology and one at Essex County College. Our other sites are at the Livingston Mall Sears, Kmart in West Orange and the West Caldwell Votech School. We offer the Moderna vaccine at these sites and recently were able to get 10,000 Johnson & Johnson shots to add to Livingston Mall and the Kmart. On top of that our mobile sites offer the J&J shot and go to different centers in urban communities. We have also been able to provide townships in Essex County with vaccines so they can go to people’s homes who are unable to leave and vaccinate them.

We are so grateful that we have been able to assist our Essex County residents in the fight against COVID-19. So far, we have fully vaccinated almost 100,000 individuals in Essex County. If anyone who lives, works, or attends school in Essex County, and meets the eligibility requirements set forth by the state, is looking to get vaccinated please visit us at

Another project Essex County is working on is an employee health and wellness survey. The well-being of our employees is always important but even more so in a global pandemic. We are creating a survey for them with the help of Rutgers that should be completed by June. We want our employees to be able to express their needs so we can help them as much as possible. Our employees have worked throughout the pandemic on top of managing with their personal lives and families. Listening and giving back is the least we could do.
