Expanding Policy Impact with Training and Incentives
There was brainstorming, and spirited discussion at the Healthier Middlesex Physical Activity and Nutrition committee meeting on December 5th. The work group confirmed educational sessions that will be delivered in a free 3 hour Camp Director training on January 29th. The training goal is to educate and encourage Middlesex County camps to adopt healthy eating and physical activity policies. Directors will be provided templates and sample policies that can be adopted, including the elimination of sugar sweet beverages, Empty calorie, snacks and fried foods. Physical activity standards and policy efforts will also be reviewed. Thirty camps in Middlesex County have been invited. Camps signing a Memorandum of Understanding will be awarded incentives including free:
Summer programs brought to committed camps ($300 value)
Physical activity equipment kits ($60-$200 value)
Mentors to assist Camps in policy ($50 per hour value)
