Grow It Green’s Pop-up Stand has Officially Launched
Our farming operations at the Urban Farm are exceeding expectations this growing season. The week of the first Pop-up Stand we harvested a half ton of food, in one day! We’re so thankful to have such a bounty to share with our neighbors in Census Tract 435. Though our very first Pop-up Stand of the season was hampered by thunderstorms, we are now in full swing!
Every Thursday, our Pop-up Farm Stand will be located on a rotating basis at the Early Street Community Garden and the Neighborhood House – high foot traffic areas. Having two locations will provided enough access for area residents, but will be a less confusing schedule to follow than last year. In any event, we always have the option to relocate the Pop-up Stand if a better opportunity arises to meet people where they live and work!
We are once again partnering with Morris Arts this season to build programming around our Pop-up Stand, to build community around fresh local food. On August 8, we’ll have music by Adam Najemian, Live Portraits done by Anne Mitchell, and a Macramé Workshop led by Cesar Salas. People can spend time listening to music and learning a new craft, and leave with a bag full of the best produce in town! We accept SNAP benefits (formerly food stamps) on produce sold at our farm stands, and are able to offer double SNAP dollars: customers get double the produce at half the price.
The program is supported by funding from Atlantic Health System as part of the New Jersey Healthy Communities Network.
