Healthy at Work
We all know that being busy is just a part of life, but statistics show that we cut out one vitally important aspect to life – our health. Many of us spend more of our week at our jobs versus our homes. After working 8+ hour days, coming home and having to think about exercise or cooking a healthy meal, while handling all other daily responsibilities, is typically out of the question. Through our work with the Live Healthy Vineland initiative, we targeted local worksites as an opportunity to create a culture of health, away from home. Our goal was that if resident’s state they do not have time, or access, to exercise, how could we bring it to them? What better way than to collaborate with the local businesses to incorporate healthy living into their environment? Not only would this initiative propose an added benefit for employees, but also create a more efficient workforce. Our strategy was to integrate health initiatives for actively engaging employees to take an interest in their health while at work, with hopes that healthy living would follow them home!
How would you like a healthy workplace to look? Implemented activities and policies included walking clubs, education on sitting disease, stairwell challenge, and ergonomic stretching. Nutrition focus included healthy snack of the month club, healthy vending machines, healthy restaurant partners, and a water challenge. These activities are easy to implement at any worksite, providing sustainability for anyone, while offering education for employees to bring home and incorporate into their daily living.
