Healthy Fall Foods – Nutrition Education for the Public
Every year, during our biannual health fairs, we strive to provide community participants with evidence-based, fun and educational activities to improve awareness of healthy diet options and delicious healthy meals. On September 21, 2019, we provided 66 adult participants and 21 children with delicious squash soup and guacamole salsa – prepared by none other than our dietitian Kelly Donovan during a cooking demonstration. Participants learned about the health benefits of guacamole, and each person present was provided a recipe bag and cookbook. Kelly also provided individual counseling for participants.
At our next community education event, we plan to survey participants on their nutrition knowledge and determine if our educational interventions lead to increased knowledge and behavioral change.
