Help Your Community with a Shot in the Arm!
On Tuesday, November 17, Family Promise Union County, hosted a Free Flu Vaccination Clinic, provided by the Atlantic Health System. Medical staff from Overlook Hospital, which included three registered nurses and three medical students, were there to inoculate residents from the Elizabeth neighborhood of Family Promise Union County and the First Baptist Church. Former guests and staff of Family Promise, along with the participants of the First Baptist Food Pantry lined up to receive their vaccination.
Nurses Susan Hanlon and Wendy Decker said that Atlantic Health Systems have been providing flu vaccination clinics for over fifteen years to the five New Jersey counties of Union, Morris, Sussex, Warren, and Passaic. This year, they have vaccinated over 300 patients.
The dedicated medical team included Nurse Solangel Patarroyo, along with Hanlon and Decker, and medical students Parastou Einafshar, Rashelle Ripa, and Olga Ostroversky.
They all agreed that it was of the utmost importance for everyone to receive a flu shot this year, due to the pandemic. It is vital to reduce the number of patients who may contract seasonal flu and could require subsequent hospitalization, to keep hospital beds open for COVID-19 patients. Everyone must do their part during a community public health emergency. One small way that each person can help their community is by getting a flu vaccination!
