Holidays and Health at HomeFront
Greetings from HomeFront Family Campus!
As the holidays unfold here at our family campus, we are blessed with a bounty of love and support from the community. This year, in an effort to continue our focus on wellness even through the hectic holiday season, we have volunteers looking to find creative ways to celebrate the holidays while also celebrating health. Instead of having a cookie decorating party we had a dance party – simple and satisfying solution! Instead of making pies in our teaching kitchen, our kids made fruit turkeys (see photo). We certainly want to preserve the tradition of delicious food being part of celebrating the holidays but it is not impossible to find ways to weave in some healthier options and to continue our focus on an active lifestyle.
We continue to slowly increase our exercise program – we have incorporated dance and yoga in an effort to find something that appeals to everyone. As a staff we are learning what works. We know that surrounding our clients with the support they need to build a healthier lifestyle with lots of encouragement and no judgement has yielded some wonderful results. As we look towards 2020 we hope to continue finding creative ways to increase our focus on wellness in all aspects of our programs. We also plan to continue taking advantage of the many resources offered by the New Jersey Healthy Communities Network – this is definitely a job that takes a village.
Wishing you a joyous holiday season from all of us at HomeFront!
