Impact of Covid 19 on Creation of Sensory Garden
It is a very different end to the school year. This is usually the time of year that the school building is buzzing with excitement and energy. Tomorrow is the last day of school for Merriam Avenue students and our building is empty.
We had big plans for our Sensory Garden. Since learning we were awarded the grant in January we have held several planning meetings with our community partners, Performance Pediatrics and SNAP-ED to discuss hardscaping and landscaping.
We had hoped to have completed Phase One of our garden at this time, but Covid has put a hold on our efforts.
Despite this disappointment we remain positive and enthusiastic about the Merriam Avenue School Sensory Garden. We hope that when we receive the funds we can start work over the summer on the hardscaping elements of the garden, such as the installation of ramps, benches and a fountain. We know that if we can achieve these objectives, the garden will be a welcome sanctuary should we be allowed to return to school in the fall.
