Inclusive Solutions to Accessing Health Resources

As we continue to move forward with our Environmental Assessment as part of our First-Year grant goal, we are simultaneously addressing health barriers that have surfaced and continue to surface due to the pandemic.

Sharing our County-Based Food Resource Bank in conjunction with Information and Referral calls has opened the conversation with families regarding their needs in addition to the initial need for resources. The Center’s Facebook page has been a focal access point for information about food banks and pantries which is monitored by our Community Health Workers.

With the launch of our Health Education Webinar Series, we have been able to reach families with special needs regarding Horticultural Therapy for Children with Disabilities presented by the Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, Nutrition Assistance Programs in NJ presented by HungerFreeNJ, and our latest webinar about Health Insurance Options in NJ presented by Certified Health Insurance Navigators (English and Spanish).

In addition, the Center’s website, which is a centralized resource for nutrition education for individuals with disabilities, has been renovated to reflect these needs. Cookbooks, Oral health information, Accessible recipe videos, Non-adaptive kitchen wheelchair cooking videos, as well as an expanding webinar archive and resource list has allowed us to meet families where they are.
