KidsFit and Newark Public Schools
Through education and policy change we are encouraging school communities to live an active healthy life. At the onset of 2021, 41 Newark Public Schools were trained in the KidsFit program and soon these physical education teachers will be equipped with the program materials to teach this evidence based health curriculum that bridges physical education and nutrition education. The KidsFit program motivates students to move more and make healthier food choices. Prior to Covid we were also in the process of updating the Newark Public School Wellness policy to reinforce the health information taught in KidsFit. Now that in person activities are mostly in place we will be revisiting the wellness policy with our leaders in education and our community partners. Nutrition education taught by healthy role models, and a wellness policy that ensures access to recreation and physical activity will create a healthy school culture so that kids can live long healthy lives.
