KidsFit and Watching Healthy Food Grow
The KidsFit Program sponsored through Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is off to a great start for the 2018/2019 school year! Our team has been hard at work over the summer writing new curriculum to support our in-classroom hydroponic growing systems. BRICK Peshine Elementary School in Newark is the first of our KidsFit Schools to boast the brand new hydroponic system which was installed prior to students arriving back to school in September. It was a team effort to assemble the system which fits perfectly in the school’s science classroom where KidsFit classes will rotate throughout the year. Classes are set to begin next week and we can’t wait for students to get hands on experience with planting, transplanting, measuring pH, altering the nutrient profile of the system and most importantly, tasting healthy veggies they grew themselves! John F. Kennedy School in Newark and Hamilton School in Harrison are next in line to have their hydroponic system installed in the coming weeks. We are so excited for the opportunity to bring this unique urban farming experience right into the classroom for our students! More photos and updates to come, stay tuned!
