Not so Pretty but Very Tasty

When asked what vegetables they wanted to plant, Redwood elementary students  enthusiastically shouted “Carrots!”

However, the realities of homegrown carrots are that they rarely look like the perfect specimens found at the grocery store. Carrots grow slowly. Children were surprised at how small the carrots were, even after planting as early as mid-March.

Second, even the smallest stone in the soil where the carrot is growing will cause the carrot to fork.

The school grown carrots tasted good, the students agreed, and the odd shapes might not be pretty but they were good for a laugh.
