Park and Thrive Initiative
Last month we celebrated the ribbon cutting ceremony at our brand new outdoor fitness park. The health and fitness initiative called Park and Thrive was completely funded by the New Jersey Healthy Communities Network Grant Program. The initiative provides residents with limited access to a safe open space to exercise and be active. The establishment of this project is part of a larger goal to promote sustainable health equity in the Township of North Bergen.
Our department is confident that, over time the initiative will produce meaningful, measurable long-term results. Other services to be provided include educational resources and informational materials regarding exercise, nutrition, disease prevention and more. Exercise demonstrations will also be hosted periodically to increase the number of residents that are using this outdoor fitness park. Entire families are taking advantage of this free public space, which is the case of the Lopez family whose members appear in the picture below. They stated that they are extremely happy with this outdoor space and are using the outdoor gym 3 times per week. Mr. Lopez described the quality time he spends with his family (composed of five members) when they all exercise at the same time at the outdoor fitness park. We are pleased to provide spaces that bring families together. The Township of North Bergen continues to explore innovative ways to better serve Hudson County residents by helping people improve their physical activity by eliminating sedentary lifestyles.
