Partnering For a Healthier Community
At HomeFront partnering with our community has always been at the heart of everything we do – this fall is no different! We are excited to be working with Taiho Oncology to present a series of 5 virtual cooking classes. The Taiho volunteers will be guiding classes via zoom with three residents participating in our teaching kitchen – social distancing and masks in place. The Taiho team is focusing on budget friendly, nutritious meals that allow for the flexibility of substitutions and modifications. A key component of these classes will be the sharing of ideas and strategies to improve family nutrition – participants will discuss their personal challenges and the class will work together to contribute solutions. The classes will also focus on ideas for creating fun, nutritious meals from items commonly obtained at food pantries. I will include a photo and results in my next blog!
This Spring, with the help of many partners, HomeFront was proud to launch the “Double Helpings” program. This program was initiated as a response to an increase in food insecurity caused by the COVID19 crisis. HomeFront now delivers over 400 nutritious meals provided by local schools, places of worship, local restaurants and the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen to individuals and families in need. We are happy to have this opportunity to work with the community to lessen the burden placed on so many of our neighbors during these difficult months.
