A sunny 60 degree day in November seemed like a good omen for the day we finally were to install our bike repair stations. Anyone following our story knows that the active living component of our project has been a challenge. Problems with ordering, finding and then losing somebody who was willing to install the stations, the generous donation (and subsequent disappearance) of vertical bike racks to enhance the project, the discovery that there were missing pieces that we needed for installation and blustery weather in the early fall, all curtailed the completion of this project. So TODAY – sunshine and warmth – a good sign.
The guys are smiling but they’re not happy. Three masonry drill bits and two hours later, we still may have to put this project on the shelf for another day. I owe a debt of gratitude to my loyal co-workers, who stepped up to the plate in so many ways to make this happen. We will not give up. So, stay tuned…within a week or so, if you’re shopping near Church Street’s Crescent Deck, or hopping on a train at the Bay Street Station, check out the bike repair stations. Better yet, ride your bike to those areas and feel secure in the knowledge that if you get a flat or have a problem with your chain, you can repair it right there!
For us, it’s been another lesson learned. As Albert Einstein wisely said, “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving”.
