Road to Recovery
While 2020 was all about overcoming roadblocks, 2021 is focused on the slow and winding road to recovery. Beyond the immediate health crisis, the lingering and multi-layered impacts of the Pandemic continue to be revealed. Working with key community partners, including the Township of Wayne and St. Joseph’s Health (Wayne), we have identified three impact areas for collaboration that align with our NJHCN healthy eating and physical activity program goals:
- Mitigating the negative affects experienced by children as a result months of social isolation
- Sustaining ongoing food assistance program
- Providing additional (non-food) support to food assistance families to support their pandemic recovery
Planning has begun for a physical activity initiative via play for elementary school children and their families to get outdoors, move and safely interact with peers after nearly a year of isolation and inactivity. In addition, food assistance families will be surveyed to learn the greatest challenges they are facing in their pandemic recovery, beyond food security, so that support systems can be leveraged and delivered.
The road to recovery from the pandemic will not be easy, but by mobilizing the power of partnerships the roadmap will be much clearer and moving in the right direction.
