Setting the Foundation for Fulfilling Dreams

Since the start of this project, the Ocean County Health Department has eagerly awaited the day that we could visit this site and see it for ourselves. In our partnership with the Toms River Field of Dreams, the OCHD was able to tour the location where this all-inclusive facility will be built. With Christian Kane as our tour guide, we were able to walk along where the walking path will be built and visualize where the playground, pavilion, accessible bathrooms, sensory area, basketball courts, bocce ball courts, and all of the other amazing features of this facility will be built throughout the next few months!

Pictured above are Christian, founder of the TRFOD, and Brianna, a field representative of the OCHD. They stand where the main entrance to the complex will be, and behind them is the location for an accessible playground with double-wide aisles for wheel chair accessibility and many other fantastic features to support individuals with disabilities of any kind. This site has had every special need in mind while being planned to offer a place for the entire community to enjoy.

Throughout the past week, we have been working to foster community partnerships and secure an audience with our target population to provide future services. From those reached, we have received an abundance of positive feedback and have been offered additional ideas to best reach disabled populations of Ocean County and deliver beneficial services catered to their needs. The OCHD is working diligently with partners to properly plan and prepare for the opening of the Toms River Field of Dreams location late Spring of 2021. The pandemic may have slowed down construction, but the dream this project has inspired will not falter.
