Sharing Health with Clients

An ‘Eating on a Budget’ presentation was provided this summer to three different Intensive Outpatient (IOP) groups that meet at the Center for Prevention and Counseling. The audience in these groups included people who are recovering from substance use disorders and also the staff members who run the group. A similar lesson was also brought to our Military Family group earlier this year. This was thanks to the partnership with Zufall Health and the SNAP-Ed program who sent over our awesome instructor Lauren. Through simple exercises Lauren presented information to the group on why everyone should be eating healthy, what it looks like to pick a healthy option, how to make your dollar stretch, she even touched on brain health and how nutrition is beneficial to those in addiction recovery.

The presentation was well received, participants were engaged, they had fun and they reported that they thought the information was useful and something they could use next time they went grocery shopping. One of the IOP group members “learned new things that they would have never thought about before.”
