Strong Finish to a Great Season
This has been a fantastic season! The weather has largely been in our favor, both for our produce production, but also our Farm Stand days. We’ve met so many new people this season – and are still going strong.
This season, our Pop-up Farm Stand has been located on a rotating basis at the Early Street Community Garden and the Neighborhood House – high foot traffic areas. Our location at the Early Street Garden has been especially popular. Our neighbors in the public senior housing building next door have been our most consistent patrons, stopping by each week for fresh produce, to chat about our work, and swap recipes. It’s been wonderful getting to know so many people and hearing how they incorporate our produce into their diets.
Our partnership with Morris Arts has brought much attention to our Pop-up Stand and has generated interest in our offerings. On August 8, we were joined by an acoustic musician, whose melodies captured the attention of passersby, and offered on-site, live water color portraits and a Macramé workshop, all for free, to welcome people to the garden. Our next event with Morris Arts is scheduled for October 3, and will feature similar interactive elements to bring people to the garden and our Pop-up Stand.
We continue to accept SNAP benefits (formerly food stamps) on produce sold at our farm stands, and are able to offer double SNAP dollars: customers get double the produce at half the price. We’ve seen a number of customers take advantage of this program. With the close of the season looming, we are so grateful for the opportunity to interact with so many people in Morristown through our Pop-up Stand. It’s been fun meeting so many people and sharing our bounty!
The program is supported by funding from Atlantic Health System as part of the New Jersey Healthy Communities Network.
