The Power of Collaboration

The first phase of Generations, Inc./Innovations Ministries’ “Just For You Program” was successfully launched on July 24. We distributed 128 bags of fresh fruits and vegetables along with health information and a healthy recipe, to three senior apartment complexes in Lindenwold, New Jersey. The seniors were very appreciative for the produce. One recipient stated, “Everyone knows produce is the most expensive thing to buy. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.” Another woman advised the produce would allow her to use the money she saved on something else.

Many thanks to all of our community partners for helping us implement the “Just For You Program.” This labor of love would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of our community partners (Harvest House, Lindenwold Towers and Linden Lake Apartments, Stellato Boys Produce, Food Bank of South Jersey, Bethany Baptist Church Transportation Department).

One of the greatest life-lessons I’ve learned is the power of collaboration. To collaborate means to work jointly with others. Collaboration fuels our mission and is weaved into the fabric of our initiatives. It expands our reach and allows our organization to make a greater impact on the communities we serve.

Two additional phases of “Just For You” which are designed to engage seniors and reduce social isolation among the older adult population were also implemented. Phase two which consists of “Comfort Calls” where participating seniors receive bi-weekly calls with words of inspiration and encouragement began on August 3. Phase three started on August 12 with our monthly conference calls. Seniors dial into a conference line to participate in workshops on various health and nutrition topics.

Plans are underway to institute phase four the end of August. This phase also targets social isolation with “Letters of Love” to help seniors stay “socially connected” by having youth send letters, cards, drawings, and simple words of encouragement to all program participants.

Collaboration is a win for our partners, a win for the seniors, and a win for Generations, Inc./Innovations Ministries. There’s power in collaboration because together we can achieve more!
