Vauxhall Community Garden

                                                                                                                                     Vauxhall Community Garden:
Over the summer vegetables were harvested and then donated to the community. On Saturday, August 11, and September 8, 2018 fresh vegetables were given to the community from our food pantry the Golden Kitchen maintained by GRL No 24 and GRC No 50. Golden Kitchen food pantry is open to the community every second Saturday of each month, normally nonperishable food is given however participators were overjoyed to receive fresh vegetables as well. Vauxhall residents continue to maintain sections of the garden for their personal use to grow vegetables.
A watering schedule is in place and sisters of GRC No 50 and some Vauxhall residents assist with the watering and maintenance of the garden. We were able to secure a water supply in August with the installation of a water pump, we no longer had to have the water tanks filled by Union ‘s Fire Department, Vauxhall Community Garden is thankful for all the prior assistance that Union’s Fire Department provided in supplying water to maintain the garden.
Our goal was to supply vegetables for Golden Rule Lodge’s Annual Community Day, however with open access to the community Garden the residents were observed helping themselves to the vegetables from the Community Garden, limiting our supply of vegetables, on September 15, 2018 a fence was installed to prevent open access to the community garden.
This year has truly been challenging however Golden Rule will continue to harvest vegetables and provide them for the Vauxhall Community. We will continue to plan for ways to improve the garden and to get more community involvement.
