Walking in Elizabeth Presents at Environmental Day
Earlier this month, Walking in Elizabeth is proud to be a continuing partner of Environmental Day in Elizabeth, NJ. Environmental Day is a yearly interactive event hosted by Future City Inc. Over 200 STEM students from schools in Elizabeth came to Peterstown Community Center to attend workshops from a diverse group ranging from the Elizabeth Historical Society to the Army Corps of Engineers. The day is designed to help the students understand their role in building a Resilient Community.
Our workshop was arranged and run by Lauren and Karen who are a Graduate Student from Kean University and a high school student in Elizabeth respectively both are spring 2019 graduates. This year Walking in Elizabeth is focusing on the Healthy Eating Strategy. Students were broken up into small groups. Questions were asked to each group about Bodegas and Corner Stores within the city of Elizabeth and their access to healthy produce. Students were able to discuss the issues with the group about the healthy eating environment around them.
