Walking in Elizabeth Presents at Estuary Day
On October 5th Future City Inc. conducted their 18th Estuary Day. The event has students from thirteen different schools across the Elizabeth school district attending. The goal of the day is for the students to learn more about their local environment and estuary. Students attend workshops run by different groups including the Army Corp, Coast Guard and others. The event is held at Peterstown Community Center in Elizabeth.
One workshop was run by Glenn Lautenbach from Future City Inc. on based upon the Walking in Elizabeth project (pictured above talking with students). Students learned about the importance of physical activity, walking and walkability in their neighborhood. A discussion was then had on what improvements they think would improve walking in their neighborhoods. The students then had time to work on a puzzle of New Jersey. This and the other workshops put on throughout the day gave students a better understanding of the environment they are in and how it impacts on them.
