Watch us grow!

Our first seeds have sprouted! Planted the week after Thanksgiving, these little salad sprouts are growing in two 4th grade classrooms as well as the School Nurse’s office at Westbrook Elementary in West Milford NJ. The 4th grade students are tending to the herbs and lettuces with help from their teachers and the School Nurse. Once the herbs and lettuce greens are ready for harvest the children will learn how to build a nutritious salad, as well as how to flavor foods and make a tasty meal without relying on excessive salts, fats, and sugars.

The program is supported by funding from Atlantic Health System as part of the New Jersey Healthy Communities Network.

About the Grantee

West Milford Health Department

We are a small local health department located in one of the largest (in land size) municipalities in New Jersey, the rural Northern Passaic County town of West Milford. Environmental health is a high priority for West Milford residents as the Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act charges West Milford residents with protecting the water that supplies much of Northern NJ.
