We are on our way to Walking with Ease in Sussex County!

We are thrilled to report that we finally received the Walk with Ease participant manuals in January 2019 and can now look to implement the program once the weather turns a little warmer.  We have scheduled to include an information “mini-session” of this program at the Older American’s Day  celebration our Division holds in May of every year.  This year it is scheduled for May 31, 2019 and attendance is typically high for this event.  We are anticipating reaching a large number of individuals to educate them about the program and generate interest.

Unfortunately, we hit some roadblocks with installation of the mini-greenhouses in the original site determined at the start of the grant period.  We are now in talks with administration of a local senior housing complex who has shown interest in having a community garden placed on their property.  We are working on logistics of the area, potentially putting a committee together of seniors who will oversee the day-to-day operations of the garden and brainstorming sustainability objectives for the new project site.  We are hoping to have this phase completed by the end of spring/early summer.

The program is supported by funding from Atlantic Health System as part of the New Jersey Healthy Communities Network.
