“Where, Oh Where”

We’ve had many successes with our grant through the Atlantic Health System. We successfully purchased and donated 6 hydroponic tower gardens to 3 schools in Lincoln Park. The schools have adeptly incorporated the gardens into curriculum and clubs. Our MPH intern, Sarah Jacob, taught classes at 2 of the schools on making a “salad in a jar” as well as the nutrient value of what they were growing and eating. Some students discovered something new and that they actually liked it! On the physical activity side, we have successfully built another kiosk that highlights the Morris Canal at the beginning of Lincoln Park. We have worked with the Canal Society of New Jersey on the historic information and photographs that have gone into the kiosk….and as I write this blog, the Canal Society is also working on 2 additional historical panels for along the route. But not everything goes as planned and there is one area we are still actively working on….a parking area! This has involved the Director of DPW, the Borough Administrator, the Borough Attorney, the Borough Engineer and myself. We have contacted a surveyor and an appraiser for their services. We are still trying to negotiate the exact location of the parking area for the canal trail. It is just taking longer than expected but we have not given up! So…where, oh where will it be is still the question. Stay tuned for the answer!
