A Change in Location Forges Friendships and Healthy Lifestyle
Beets, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, melon, corn… These are just a sampling of the many varieties of fruits and vegetables that are offered at this year’s farmer’s market at the Borough of Caldwell.
In an effort to attract additional participants this year, the City Green Veggie Mobile is offered every Thursday from 11:00 – 1:00 and now sets up in front of Borough Hall and the Caldwell Community Center. This new picturesque backdrop offers the perfect location that meets the needs of our community.
Now, every Thursdays at 11, people queue up as the “farmers” set up their stands with fresh produce. It seemed that in addition to obtaining healthy food choices, a good number of people were congregating and interacting. This socialization “by-product” of the weekly event had an impact that was even greater than we could have imagined – seniors exiting their exercise classes mingled with young mothers pushing carriages. There were multi-generational exchanges of recipes and insights and advice. So for Caldwell, Thursdays at 11 represented opportunities to purchase quality harvested foods and forge friendships; a truly winning combination!!
