A Fall Frolic, FINALLY!

After a two year hiatus, the Wayne YMCA was finally able to host our annual Fall Frolic and Boo Fest in October.  This event, organized and mobilized in partnership with the Wayne Township Parks and Recreation Department with support from NJHCN and other sponsors, is open to the community with a focus on fun, family, and LOTS of physical activity.

Over the course of 5 hours, nearly 2000 participants arrived to experience this celebration of all things Fall. Families participated in a variety of activities designed to keep them moving throughout the day.  From hayrides, a corn maze, and obstacle course, to bubble soccer, giant backyard games and the Gaga Pit – everyone enjoyed the time outdoors, TOGETHER!

While a celebration of fall and active living, Fall Frolic also provided a much needed opportunity for families to come together, reconnect with old friends and make new friends as we continue through The Pandemic.  And, according to HelpGuide, social connection and staying active are two of six keys to mental health, the others being:

We “need the company of others to feel and function at your best. Humans are social creatures with emotional needs for relationships and positive connections to others. We’re not meant to survive, let alone thrive, in isolation.” And, “…the mind and the body are intrinsically linked. When you improve your physical health, you’ll automatically experience greater mental and emotional well-being.” (Melinda Smith, M.A., Robert Segal, M.A., Lawrence Robinson, and Jeanne Segal, Ph.D. (2021), Building Better Mental Health, https://www.helpguide.org/articles/mental-health/building-better-mental-health.htm)

As we approach the winter months, now more than ever we are focused on helping those we serve THRIVE through a focus on healthy eating, active living and mental health.
