A Teen’s Perspective
I am a freshman in high school. I volunteer with the “Just For You” senior program. I help bag the senior’s produce. I am grateful for the opportunity to help support those who are in need. I think of the smiles on their faces when they receive their monthly produce bags. I love helping seniors. It reminds me of my grandmother and great-grandmother. It is a blessing knowing that I help make the seniors faces light up when they receive their produce.
It feels great to be part of a community doing something that I enjoy. When we are bagging the produce, the adults are always excited and determined to get everything done. Their excitement rubs off on me. I leave with a feeling of satisfaction. It is a sacrifice of time that is well worth the work. It feels good knowing that others are helped because I volunteered.
I also participate in “Letters of Love” where we write words of encouragement to the seniors. I share words of kindness and encourage them to enjoy their day and stay positive during COVID-19. I believe the cards make the seniors feel appreciated and special.
I am humbled by this opportunity to represent teens in the “Just For You” program. I want my fellow teens to know the heartfelt effect this program has on the youth and seniors. I believe it is necessary to serve our seniors, even if I do not know them personally. Being part of the “Just For You” senior program has truly been a blessing.
