Accessible Exercise…through policy and environmental change
The Y’s accessible walk/roll mapping project continues in overcoming access barriers for those with limited mobility and enabling policy and environmental change that can help resolve social determinants to health. We strive to align with Middlesex County and support their goals for the disabled in regard to:
- Services, Programs, or Activities: In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (“ADA”), the New Jersey Law against Discrimination (“NJLAD”), and any other applicable federal, state, or local laws, the County of Middlesex does not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services, programs, or activities.
- Modifications to Policies and Procedures: The County of Middlesex will make all reasonable modifications to policies and procedures to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all of its programs, services, and activities. For example, individuals with service animals are welcomed in Middlesex County offices, even where pets are generally prohibited.
- Response to Complaints or Needs: If there is any type of problem or complaint, please contact Debra Hehir, County ADA Coordinator, Middlesex County Office of Aging & Disabled Services, 75 Bayard Street, 5th Floor, New Brunswick, NJ
08901, 732-745-3295, or ADA@co.middlesex.nj.us as soon as possible.
Known, accessible paths will enable those with limitations to be more likely to engage in physical activity. Our goals include mapping appropriate walking routes and highlighting handicap parking, rest areas, and other features that will make exercise possible! Doing so will help promote healthy lifestyles that reduce health risk factors.
