This month’s blog is to highlight the efforts of one of Overlook Family Medicine – Family Promise Union County’s most dedicated volunteers: Kelly Donovan. Through our educational partnership, one of our aims is to provide education that empowers the community to achieve their health goals. I met Kelly Donovan while volunteering on the Family Promise Union County Community Board. Kelly demonstrated her stellar creativity by developing themed nutrition educational materials for children and adults at our biannual health fairs that were easy to understand and packed with important health information. She organizes the menu and coordinates volunteers. Most importantly, through her educational efforts, Kelly has made a lasting impact on participants.
We continue to provide regular nutrition education for the Family Promise guests and graduates. This includes one-on-one education provided at our recent health fair for over 100 community participants at our health fair on May 4, 2019. In addition, we hosted weekend workshops to discuss low cost and healthy recipes and to create a healthy meal together. At one recent workshop, participants were invited to prepare delicious and wholesome stuffed peppers. After the workshop, one participant was so excited about selecting healthier options that she brought the same recipe to her family – and shared her excitement (see photo)!
We salute Kelly and all our volunteers. Through their dedication we are creating lasting changes that impact families and communities.
