Faithful to Healthy Choices

MCOHA has made a big impact in both Dover and Morristown faith communities.  Through our work with the Faithful Families program we are helping faith communities empower their members to make positive, long-lasting health-promoting changes.  Our program impacts all members of a family through nutritional classes, cooking demonstrations, and environmental policy changes in our partner faith communities.  Our classes are fun but most of all challenging.  We challenge our participants to think beyond cultural and societal traditions and to be creative while making healthy choices.

In these past months MCOHA has completed classes and Garden Tower deliveries in Dover, NJ at Ministerio de Fe y Accion (Ministry of Faith and Action) and the Salvation Army of Morristown.  Our two groups were full of women who were looking forward to learning and making changes to their family’s food intake and exercising.  And they did just that!  Our classes were led by Dorian Restrepo who while making classes and cooking demonstrations enjoyable also made sure that all participants understood the importance of their choices and how they influence our health today and in the future.  Both Faith Communities welcomed Garden Towers as first steps to growing and eating healthier foods.  We will visit and check on their progress in the upcoming months.  We can’t wait to share pictures of their harvests.

Next stop is the Iglesia Alianza in Randolph, NJ!  We are ready and excited to be part of changing our community’s health.  We want to thank our community partners and faith communities who have opened their doors and have supported our program.
