Manasquan HIgh School Tower to Tables Initiative
Manasquan High School’s Academy of Health Careers is looking to make a big change. Teachers Mrs. Claire Kozic, Justin Roach and Simplified Culinary Food Service Manager Tina Weaver were awarded a grant of $20,000 from the New Jersey Healthy Communities Initiative (NJHCI). Mrs. Kozic currently has 175 academy students who are going to be stepping into a new role for the 2018-2019 school year. They will be showcasing their nutrition knowledge gained from being a part of the Academy of health careers to the rest of the school community. They will be doing this by using the produce they will be growing in their aeroponic growing towers to come up with new recipes to be used in our school cafeteria. Along wit the growing towers they will also be publicizing the importance of alternative seating options in the cafeteria. to we have ordered two tower gardens from Juice Plus+, a company promoting healthy eating habits. These devices are exactly what they sound like- towers of which gardens grow fresh, healthy produce.
