Positive Youth Development—At a Distance

In a time of extraordinary challenge, the Boys & Girls Club of Clifton can continue to serve our community by developing, delivering, and supporting positive youth development—at a distance.

Building on policy changes in our Early Childhood department, the Boys & Girls Club of Clifton planned to expand healthy eating and physical activity opportunities to grades 1 through 8 in our after school time. Now, with Club doors locked, schools closed indefinitely, and spring planting suspended, we needed to design a new model. Club staff are working on steps to promote healthy eating and physical activity by providing links to family centered, as well as individual activities related to nutrition education, cooking, gardening, physical education, exercise, yoga, wellness, and any other interests expressed by our community dealing with healthy eating and physical activity. Looking forward, we hope to provide prerecorded video, and then live programming to engage our community. Right now, we are starting small and hope to grow as we reach our stride.

Winston Churchill once said, “If you’re going through hell, keep going.” We are going to keep going.
