Step by Step..We’re Getting There

Summer is in full swing here in West Milford. Kids are out of school, the lakes are full of swimmers and boats, and our partnership has been steadily moving along with our StoryWalk project. The Health Department, Community Services and Recreation, and the Library have been working together to make this project a reality. Admittedly, because of change in leadership of one our partners, things had not been progressing as planned, but we’re making up for lost time.

A best practice in public health is to engage those that will be affected by a health strategy/policy. So, we utilized the Library’s Facebook page to solicit suggestions from residents on where the StoryWalk should be placed.  Based on their feedback and our professional judgement, we’ve narrowed it down to two locations: Bubbling Springs (pictured above) Recreation Area or Nosenzo Pond.  We’re in the midst ordering supplies to begin installation and will keep blogging to update our progress.

We’ve conducted a few planning meetings with the school vegetable gardens program, but hope to have much more traction on the progress of this project in the very near future. Thanks for reading and stay tuned!

The program is supported by funding from Atlantic Health System as part of the New Jersey Healthy Communities Network.
