The North Bergen Park and Thrive Initiative
We want to invite you to follow our journey of implementing this initiative. The North Bergen Health Department is committed to improving the quality of life for our 60,000 plus residents by offering a wide array of services that target disease prevention, health promotion, and community engagement.
With the support of the New Jersey Healthy Communities Network (NJHCN), we will be able to transform a vacant space behind an apartment complex of low-income families into an adult park with modern gym equipment. These machines can simultaneously accommodate up to 13 individuals at once. The park is located in close proximity to many residents, public transportation, a daycare center and a senior center. You can find the new Fitness Park at 5828 Meadowview Ave, just a few blocks away from the North Bergen Recreational Center in front of the Children’s Playground. Parents will be able to exercise while watching their children play just a few feet away!
In addition, the North Bergen Health Department will host a Farmer’s Market adjacent to the popular 64th street field at the North Bergen Recreational Center. This initiative will benefit the community by providing affordable prices for healthy and fresh organic produce. The Farmer’s Market is scheduled to begin October 2018. Supported initiatives will contribute to building a culture of health by increasing food access and opportunities for physical activity in the North Bergen Community.
Stay tuned for more news on our upcoming projects.
