Virtual Wellness at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center
The Wellness Center at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center has been focusing primarily on food insecurity through our women’s wellness pantry and summer feeding program since March. We are now expanding our wellness programming to include a robust calendar of virtual education. Many districts including Newark public schools have made the decision to start with virtual education this September. The focus on in school wellness can be shifted to support the health and wellness needs of Newark’s students and families. These virtual education sessions will include KidsFit healthy cooking classes, intergenerational nutrition education, senior wellness, fitness classes, Prenatal fitness and nutrition classes and much more. As the virtual calendar begins a pilot launch in September we will work to increase programming specifically geared towards parents of school age children. An additional update on the wellness front at NBI is the opening of the Beth Farmers Market! Our weekly farmers market sells local fresh produce at affordable pricing, accepting SNAP, WIC and Senior farmers market vouchers. The outdoor Beth Farmers market also offers online orders and curbside pick up
When in person education resumes we will be ready to submit our community developed comprehensive NPS wellness policy for approval. In the meantime we will work steadily to address food insecurity, access, and health education needs of the community.
