West Orange After-School Students Will Grow Their Own Salads

Redwood Elementary has a new school garden and in the fall semester, students will be growing fall crops in the after school program. The fall growing season consists mostly of lettuces, kales, and a few other vegetables like kohlrabi, parsnips, and carrots, which gain a degree of sweetness when the cooler temperatures prevail.
The students will make salads in the after school program as an afternoon snack, and will choose their own recipes. Among the crops the Redwood students will grow are:
Carrots
Swiss Chard
Kale
Kohlrabi
Lettuce(s)
Mustard
Radishes
Scallions
Spinach
Tatsoi
